School History

The Russian School of Mathematics was first opened in 1997. It started as a small after school program for a group of Newton teenagers studying for the SAT. Being very concerned with our children struggles with math, we felt an urgent need to prepare them better  for colleges. The inadequate amount and style of teaching in public schools was obvious. Surprisingly, we did not find any local programs that offered a desirable approach to math education. These factors prompted us to start our own school.

Now, ten years later, increasing numbers of our successful graduates, their grateful parents and all new students coming to us every year in search of thorough, sequential, logical and complete math education bring us the sense of great accomplishment.

Today we see our school as something greater than just a place for education. RSM has grown into a community - a place where students learn to achieve the highest results and share their knowledge with peers, build strong self-confidence and meet new friends, laugh and have fun. Many of our students and their families meet one another in this process and remain close friends for life. The enormous success of our summer Camp Sunapee , where daily math classes are a requirement, is  proof that learning and fun are not mutually exclusive. We do our best to provide both fun and knowledge for our children.
